Adult Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, is a gentle and compassionate way to help clients recognise and make positive changes to unhelpful emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. These feelings and thoughts can be related to various situations, such as experiencing grief, adjusting to new life circumstances, managing health issues, or coping with stress.
A Compassionate, Evidence-Based Approach
Psychotherapy is a kind, evidence-based approach grounded in meaningful conversations. As a compassionately trained therapist, I aim to create a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment where you feel safe to share your thoughts and feelings. During our sessions, we will work together to explore and change negative thoughts and behaviours that prevent you from being your authentic self and living a happier life.
Benefits of Therapy
Research shows that many people find relief from their symptoms through psychotherapy and often find it easier to manage daily tasks. Approximately 75 per cent of those who begin therapy notice some positive changes. Therapy helps improve emotional and psychological well-being and is linked to positive changes in both the brain and body. It can also lead to fewer sick days, reduced disability, fewer health issues, and increased job satisfaction.
Thanks to advances in brain imaging, researchers can now see how the brain changes after therapy. Many studies have shown that people with mental health issues like depression, panic disorder, PTSD, and others experience beneficial brain changes after therapy. Interestingly, these brain changes are often similar to those caused by medication.
Getting the most from Therapy
To get the most out of therapy, think of it as a team effort. Be open and honest, follow your treatment plan, and complete any assignments, such as journaling or practising what you’ve learned, between sessions.
